I just finished watching this stiffly-narrated self-aggrandizing puff piece of a series. It came across as total self promotion rather than a documentary or reality show of any kind. Aside from the truly incredible surfing, there was absolutely nothing compelling or even slightly interesting. I'm not expecting Jerry Springer type drama, but come on... nothing happened. There was NO STORY.
Can you say propaganda, boys and girls? I knew you could. I had never heard of the Wolfpak Surf Club before watching this show, but got the idea that they have a bad reputation . The whole show came across as "See, we're not thugs, we host beach clean-ups!"
While I realize this is a male dominated sport, I found it somewhat misogynistic. The only women in this show were shown as bodies in bikinis or party-goers. That's it. The wives and girlfriends were never introduced and didn't even get so much as a mention. There wasn't a single shot of a single woman surfing.
